‘Frankenstorm’ Explained.

Millions of people along the east coast of the United States have been preparing for hurricane Sandy, which could turn into a super storm meteorologists are calling ‘Frankenstorm’. Hurricane Sandy will make a direct hit on New Jersey and New York City as it reaches landfall Monday evening. Sandy will then collide with an arctic front from the west causing hurricane force winds, record breaking surging tides and a foot of rain with a chance of snow. In preparation of ‘Frankenstorm’, New York City’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg has shutdown the city’s subway, closed public schools and has ordered over 350,000 people to evacuate low areas of New York City – [New York City Hurricane Evacuation Zone Map]. Lower levels of buildings in New Jersey have also evacuated. Blizzard warnings are currently in effect for portions of West Virginia where more than one foot of snow is expected. Forecasters say ‘Frankenstorm’ could become the worst storm the northeast has seen in over 100 years. Damages from the storm could be catastrophic and reach over $100 billion.
