Over the past two months, master animal trainer, Mark Vette has been training three rescue dogs to drive a Mini Cooper. On Monday, Porter, a Beardie Cross became the first dog in the world to drive a car unassisted. SPCA of New Zealand created the campaign reminding people that abused, abandoned, or just forgotten dogs deserve a home.

Auckland, New Zealand’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals [SPCA] team up with master animal trainer Mark Vette to teach three dogs how to drive. Over the past two months, Monty, a Giant Schnauzer, Ginny, a Whippet Cross, and Porter, a Beardie Cross spent their days training to drive a car. Next week Porter will take a Mini Countryman for an unassisted drive on live television. The project is a part of a campaign to show how much potential shelter dogs have as family pets.
