Marathon Runners Spontaneously Detour Race To Honor World War II Veteran

During the 3rd annual 408k marathon race in San Jose, California Sunday, 95-year-old World War II veteran Joe Bell put on his military uniform and cheered on the participants as they ran by. Unexpectedly, one runner slowed down, detoured the race and shook Bell’s hand, thanking him for his service. The kind gesture sparked a chain reaction, and soon nearly half the runners detoured the race to thank him.
