California Bay Area news channel KTVU wrongfully reported the pilots involved in the Asiana flight 214 crash at SFO as ‘Sum Ting Wong’, ‘Wi Tu Lo’, ‘Ho Lee Fuk’ and ‘Bang Ding Ow’. The network failed to recognize that the names were racist jokes and read them live on the air during Friday’s noon broadcast. KTVU quickly released a statement apologizing for the error and are reviewing their procedures to ensure this type of error does not happen again.
[UPDATE] The NTSB released a statement saying a summer intern confirmed the incorrect names to KTVU.
