In the summer of 2010, Zak Anderegg from Holladay, Utah was hiking solo in a remote canyon along the Arizona-Utah border when he found an 8-month-old Black Lab puppy at the bottom of a 350-foot-deep canyon slot. Knowing he couldn’t just leave the dog trapped, Anderegg single-handedly rescued him, then later adopted him. You can read more about Anderegg’s story in his book, Rescuing Riley, Saving Myself.
